The summer is in full swing now, it’s hot outside, the transfer window is open and the yearly “will we”, “won’t we” transfer saga is in full swing with the rumoured almost, sort of, practically done deal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain that’s been at the same stage for around three weeks now. We’re also making headway with the acquisition of Rooney according to many even though Moyes said he will stay. One day he’s practically ours the next he’s staying at United. It’s all getting a bit tedious but lets face it we bloody love it!
One of the stories doing the rounds at the moment is the gunners apparently stepping up their initial (supposed) interest in signing back Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona. Some very well respected people on twitter and some not so respected journalists are quietly saying its something that’s being worked on but hinges on a lot as to
whether he will come back to his adopted home in London or not. Yes it’s only been a couple of years since the young Spanish midfielder left us for his childhood club yet by all accounts were in the running to tempt him away from the club he fought so hard to get back to.
Now I don’t know about you guys but I’d have him back in a heartbeat, our attacking midfield hasn’t quite been the same since he left despite Santi’s best efforts last season but at the same time I still have a kind of sour taste in my mouth over the way in which he left us. Rumours of faking injuries and him literally paying out of
his own pocket to leave doesn’t sit well with me but I’m willing to let bygones be bygones on this one and forgive him because he is just that class. He’s a special player and I suppose it’s not like he left us for a main rival and scored against us like that RVP mug.
The reason I’m so excited at the prospect of having Cesc come back is because this season we seem to be seriously looking to make a statement to the rest of the league that we are back. With us interested in bringing in a world class striker to compliment and get the best out of our other forwards and us looking to bring in a
holding midfield player to provide support both to the hugely more solid looking defence and the attack as well as a few squad players for depth, the signing of Cesc could be that last link to take us back to being serious challengers for the title. We’d have all our rivals quaking at the prospect of having us tearing it up in their grounds.
As I said though at this point it is merely presumption that were even in for him but I hope that this is one rumour that actually has something concrete behind it. After spending the last couple of seasons as a bit part player and being understudy to Xavi, Initesta and Messi I hope he comes back with something to prove and has the hunger and desire to bring some trophies back to the Emirates.
