Barcelona ace Cesc Fabregas believes Arsenal have managed to sign Real Madrid’s ‘second-best player’.

The former Arsenal captain was linked with a move back to the Emirates this summer but after he declared his commitment to Barcelona, Arsenal changed their targets, however no-one expected Arsenal to be announcing the signing of Özil, least of all Fabregas.

The German completed a club record £42.4 million deadline day move after a successful three-year spell in Madrid. Gareth Bale’s world record move from Tottenham forced Özil to think about his future, which led to his surprising move to North London.

Cesc, who has played against the playmaker several times, believes Arsenal did great business brining in the 24-year old.

‘He’ll be great for Arsenal’

‘I was really surprised by Özil’s departure, he seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid.’

If Cesc is so happy about the sort of business Arsenal have done in the last window, maybe Cesc will consider coming back in the future?

Several members of the Real squad have also voiced their disappointment in Özil’s move away including Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ramos was first to break the silence.

‘Everyone is free to choose the best for themselves, but if I were to decide what was happening at Madrid, he would be one of the last who would be going.’

Arbeloa joined in sharing his disbelief.

‘Özil said goodbye on Sunday but I thought it was a joke. There is nobody like him. It will be tough for the fans because they loves him.’

Ronaldo’s action was more of anger than of disappointment when he hard the news while on international duty with Portugal. Madrid fans back Ronaldo’s stance with a huge backlash now occurring at the club despite Gareth Bale’s arrival.
