Arsenal’s stunning signing of Mesut Ozil was not enough to keep Gunners fan Piers Morgan happy. The loud-mouthed journalist has never kept his thoughts on Arsenal quiet and spoke out following Arsenal’s deadline day deals.
The club had only bought in Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini before the final day of the transfer window. Emiliano Viviano’s loan signing was followed by the £42.4 million capture of Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil.
Morgan went to Twitter to voice his latest opinion on the clubs transfer activity.
‘Brilliant though the Ozil signing is, it remains ridiculous that we end the window with £100m in the bank and no new striker, CDM. #AFC’
Arsene Wenger was hoping to complete a season long loan deal for Chelsea’s Demba Ba but the deal feel through leaving Arsenal with no new forward.
Morgan had hounded the Gunners all summer to spend the money that they so publicly announced they had but after topping their transfer record by £27 million, Piers was still left moaning.
The clubs acquisition of Mathieu Flamini seems to have pleased Wenger in the defensive midfield role with no bid for a player in that position announced however the collapsing of the Ba deal proves that Wenger was also after another striker before the close of the window.
Olivier Giroud’s form so far means Arsenal do not need a striker but he will need to be rested throughout the season and will not be able to score in every single match however Wenger could argue Ozil’s presence in midfield could give Giroud even more chances to score.
