Arsene Wenger says Jack Wilshere’s future at the club is dependent on the player himself.
Wilshere has just three months to run on his current deal and could leave the Emirates for free should he fail to sign a new deal.
The England international has always expressed his desire to remain an Arsenal player. The 26 year-old who came through the ranks of the Gunners academy has captained the side several times this season.
Wenger says talks are still progressing, but the club are just waiting on the midfielder himself now.
“It is progressing,” he said. “The decision belongs to him (Wilshere) and at the end of the day you have to respect the decision of the player.”
Arsenal reportedly made an offer to the midfielder last year, which included a salary cut to £80,000-per-week, with performance related bonuses.
It’s uncertain whether Wilshere is holding out for more money or just to assess his other options.
