ARSENAL have held talks over a stunning summer swoop for Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.
Nigeria international midfielder Ndidi has impressed since joining the Foxes from Belgian outfit Genk for around £18million in January 2017.
Arsenal face competition for the 21-year-old, however, with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United also monitoring developments.
A source close to Ndidi told The Sun: “There has been so much interest in him.
“He is going to be a top player and Arsenal have been in contact. They want to sign him this summer.
“Arsene Wenger is a manager he admires a lot and his friend Alex Iwobi has told him lots of great things about the club.
“But there is no shortage of offers. Liverpool have shown strong interest and United.”
Ndidi arrived at the King Power Stadium as a replacement for N’Golo Kante following the France international’s move to Chelsea.
He has started every game for Leicester this season but saw red in yesterday’s 2-0 win at Brighton and Hove Albion.
Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Ndidi as a potential replacement for Emre Can, who is set to leave Anfield when his contract expires in June.
African journalist Alpha Balde claimed earlier this month that an agreement has been reached by the two parties.
“Ndidi approached by Liverpool,” Balde tweeted. “The player would have agreed. It remains to agree with Leicester, who asks a lot.”
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has earmarked a new central midfielder as a priority ahead of the summer transfer window.
Michael Carrick is retiring at the end of the season, Marouane Fellaini is out of contract while there are doubts over Ander Herrera’s future.
