The pressure on Arsene Wenger has further intensified following Arsenal’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Wenger’s current contract runs until 2019, but it appears the Arsenal hierarchy has finally run out of patience, and no longer believe he is the man to take Arsenal forward.

A number of names have been mentioned to take over at Arsenal, but a new one has been added to the list – Luis Enrique this was initially reported by Mundo Deportivo but has since been reported by other outlets including the likes of the Sun. The former Barcelona manager has been out of football since leaving the Catalan club in May, and reports that he has agreed to move to Chelsea appear to be wide of the mark. So, would Luis Enrique be a good fit at Arsenal?

During his time at Barcelona, Luis Enrique delivered two league titles, three Copa del Rey’s, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in just three years. During this time, he built a team that played some of the best football European football has seen since Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona days, with Messi, Neymar and Suarez literally tearing teams apart.

At Arsenal, Enrique would face an entirely different prospect. He wouldn’t be taking over a side with a recent history of winning major honours, he wouldn’t have Messi, Suarez and Neymar, and he wouldn’t have a team with a winning mentality. It would be down to him to engrain a winning attitude into the team, and bring Arsenal back to where they belong.

While this may seem like a big job, it’s important to remember the positive sides of taking over at Arsenal. First off, he would have a large budget due to TV money, sponsorship deals and player sales, and he would likely be given much more time than he would at Chelsea. On top of this, he has Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and Lacazette to work with.
