Arsenal are closer to completing the signing of Barcelona and Spain under 21 defender Martin Montoya. Montoya only recently confirmed to the press that he will consider leaving the Catalonia club for a club where he can get more regular playing chance after seeing his first team opportunity blocked by the wonderful form of Dani Alves.
With Bacary Sagna in the last 9 months of his current Arsenal contract and still yet to sign a new deal with the club, it is believed that Wenger is in the market for a new right back to take over from aging Sagna as Jenkinson is still regarded as a rookie.
The beautiful thing is that the gunners may be signing the high rated Spanish right back for free as the player is in the last 9 months of his contract and has so far turned down all moves by Barca officials to re-sign him to a new long term deal.
Montoya has been watched a couple of times by Arsenal scouts and if you believe reports from both Spain and England, Wenger has made verbal agreement with the player and his representatives with only Barcelona left convince in order to make the deal go through. Wenger is however reportedly ready to wait till next summer fo sign the player on the free if Barcelona do not let him leave in the January transfer window.
