According to various reports coming from Romania this morning, Arsenal may be close to signing former Schalke 04 striker Ciprian Marica on a free transfer. The 27 year old striker is a free agent after leaving Schalke 04 in the summer. Although he has been linked to moves to several clubs, some of which are Inter Milan, Lazio, his former club Shakhtar Donetsk and West ham, he remains a free agent.
Although the transfer window is closed, the Romanian can still move to any club he wants as free agents are allow to move even when the transfer window is closed. West ham are said to be keen on signing the player but if you believe reports from the player’s country this morning, Arsenal have stolen the shown and may be confirming the signing of the player within the next 1 week.
“Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eyeing his career,” his agent Ioan Becali – who also looks after recent Spurs signing Vlad Chiriches – is quoted by Prosport.ro
Becali even claims that a deal with Arsenal is in the pipeline, adding: “He’s close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week.”
Marica remains with the Romanian squad for their all important World Cup qualifier with Turkey on Tuesday. A match that they must win if they want to finish as the second placed team in their group.
Marica has an impressive goal scoring record for his country with 23 goals in 63 caps.
