Emiliano Viviano is on the verge of a move to Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger has been searching for a new goalkeeper to give competition to current number one Wojciech Szczesny.
The Frenchman has been linked with several goalkeepers including Asmir Begovic, Julio Cesar and Iker Casillas while an inquiry for Valencia’s shot-stopper was submitted earlier in the week. However, after bulking at the huge £25 million asking price, Wenger changed his focus to Palermo’s Viviano.
The Italian was linked with a move to Arsenal two years ago but a move never materialized. He was loaned out to Fiorentina last season where he enjoyed a hugely successful season with the Viola but returned to parent club Palermo earlier in the summer. The clubs relegation to Serie B has made the player want to leave.
Wenger’s interest in the goalkeeper as well as his availability could see a move completed before the Gunners play the first North London Derby of the season on 31 August.
