Sampdoria are reportedly keen to reignite their interest in Jack Wilshere in January.

The Serie A side were linked with Jack during the summer when Arsenal knocked back a £7.5m offer. However, according to Calcio Mercato, they’re going to return for the 25-year-old in January and try their luck again.

Despite Arsene Wenger insisting that he’ll do everything he can to get Jack to stay in north London if he believes it to be in the player’s best interests, the midfielder still has just over six months left on his current deal with the Gunners.

“For him, I’ve repeated it many times, it’s just about being fit,” Wenger said ahead of Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield. “He’s considered like any other player in the squad. He’s at that level now that every opportunity he gets is a good chance for him to commit for a long-term future.

“At the moment, I just think about the interest of our next game. I don’t think long term. For him, I always considered his interest because for me he’s an Arsenal player and has been since he was a kid.

“He’s a football man and I will always decide what is best for him, that is my first priority no matter what kind of decision I make. I have to consider the interests of Jack Wilshere and Arsenal together.”

Wenger claims Jack’s future will be sorted in December. However, whether that means he’s staying or going remains to be seen.

Ultimately, it comes down to fitness. The England international is yet to make a single Premier League start for Arsenal this season and if he’s struggling to make the first team this much, is it really worth keeping him around?

After a sharp return from injury at the beginning of the Europa League campaign in September, Jack’s performances have been lacking and while he does produce the odd moment of brilliance, that’s obviously not enough to convince Wenger to start him, which does make me feel that he could leave in January.
