Arsenal will reportedly lock horns with Liverpool in signing attacking Max Meyer from Schalke, according to report in Itay.
Meyer became a free agent at the end of last season after seeing out his contract with Schalke. However, the 22-year-old has had difficulty in finding a new club after demanding €5m-a-year (£4.42m), or £85,000-a-week. Those are after-tax figures as well, so realistically he wants his new club to pay well over £100,000-a-week, Bild reports.
It is understood Arsenal deemed the fee too high for a player who managed just one goal and one assist in 28 appearances last season, which led to his omission from the Germany squad for the World Cup.
Arsenal are also looking to bolster their attacking midfield options despite Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan available to head coach Unai Emery.
