Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has warned Ivan Perisic he must find a club willing to foot his wages after the winger handed in a transfer request in a bid to join Arsenal. The Croatian is free to leave the club this month but Inter want any deal to be a permanent one, while Arsenal can only manage a loan deal with an option to buy. Perisic has long been linked with Manchester United but Jose Mourinho’s departure has led to the Red Devils cooling their interest. The 29-year-old was an unused substitute during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Torino and Spalletti warned the Croatian afterwards that his departure is not as simple as simply handing in a transfer request.
‘Ivan Perisic? Players are employees of the club, if they want to leave, they have to find someone who is willing to pay their wages,’ said Spalletti. ‘You can’t just leave for free, that’s not how it works. ‘Marotta is right, if Perisic doesn’t want to stay here then he will be left out from my squad.’
Arsenal have just three days left of the window and are working on a deal for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez in the mean time. Like Inter, Barcelona are unprepared to listen to offers that aren’t permanent so Arsenal may need to raise funds by selling a member of the first team squad.
