Arsenal are close to announcing the signing of Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free, according to the Mirror.
The 34-year-old reportedly flew into London on Friday and spent the day at Arsenal’s Colney training centre where he agreed a one-year deal which included the option of another year, as reported by Football.London.
Moving to Arsenal will see Lichtsteiner’s seven year stay with Juventus come to an end, having made 201 appearances and having won the Serie A title in each of his seasons there.
His ability to play in numerous positions – right-back, right wing-back and right midfield – will be a welcome boost to the Arsenal side, who are set to try and exceed their finishing position of 6th last season.
The experience the Swiss brings to the side will also be valuable to Arsenal, as they continue to play in the UEFA Europa League next season, and will need his stamina and athleticism to proceed through the competition.
