Arsenal transfer news includes Alexandre Lacazette, who has been holding out for a move to Atletico Madrid
Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of a big-money striker, with Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette one of their primary targets this summer.
Arsene Wenger is keen to secure the signing of his fellow countryman, with the Gunners having already submitted a £44m bid to prise him from the Ligue 1 side.
Lacazette will command a club-record fee and Lyon are holding out for as much as £57m to secure his signing with Atletico Madrid also in the race for the 26-year-old.
According to L’Equipe, Atletico retain an interest in Lacazette despite their transfer ban being upheld, meaning they cannot sign players until January – but Lacazette’s latest social media activity suggests he could yet bide his time over his future.
He is keen to leave Lyon following the French side’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, though Wenger is confident the Gunners’ own inability to reach Europe’s elite competition will not hinder Arsenal’s chances of a transfer.
But the threat of Atletico Madrid continues to loom large, with Lacazette pictured during his holiday in Los Angeles with French international teammate and Atleti’s star man Antoine Griezmann.
Lacazette posted an image of the pair together in the US with the caption ‘hermano’ which translates as ‘brother’ in Spanish.
The duo’s friendship dates back to their childhood, with Griezmann originally from Mâcon, a city just outside Lyon and they played together frequently at various age levels in the youth teams for France.
And the latest picture of the pair together at Venice Beach in LA suggests Atletico may still hold out hope of convincing Lacazette to commit his future to the Spaniards rather than Arsenal given the pair’s close friendship and Griezmann’s decision to sign a new deal with Atleti.
