Breaking: Jurgen Klopp congratulates Arsenal over Auba capture

Jurgen Klopp has explained why he didn’t battle Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s signature this January transfer window.

Liverpool were never linked with the forward, who has netted 21 times in 24 appearances in all competitions this season, despite him being available for £60million this month.

But because of his relationship with the player, many had expected Klopp to swoop for Aubameyang, who he managed at Dortmund from 2013 to 2015.

Instead Arsenal have agreed terms with the Gabon international, who they made their top target after losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.

Speaking to DAZN, Klopp was asked why he didn’t table a bid for the striker, and revealed it is because he wouldn’t be able to find a place for him in his team.

“Auba is really a good guy,” said Klopp. “Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen.

“He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players.”

Arsenal believe they have reached a £58million deal to land Aubameyang, who is set to sign a £180,000-a-week contract with the north London club.
