According to a report in the Sun, there is no chance Jack Wilshere will sign the contract being offered by Arsenal and will quit the club this summer unless a much-improved deal is put on the table.
Wilshere has been with Arsenal since he was nine years old and progressed through the youth ranks to become one of the most highly rated young players to break in to the first team.
However, his time at Arsenal has been blighted by a number of serious injury problems and Jack has failed to fulfill his full potential yet in the famous Red & White jersey.
The 26-year-old has just months left to run on his current deal and he’ll be able to join any club on a free transfer when his contract expires in June unless an agreement is reached over an extension.
The Sun claim Arsenal have offered a basic salary worth 25% less than his current £120,000-a-week wage but it’s highly incentivised meaning he’d earn more if he stays injury free and plays regularly.
Arsene Wenger insisted at his press conference yesterday that talks were progressing well and he was keen for the midfielder to sign his new deal as quickly as possible. Wenger is quoted as saying by the Sun:
“I want Jack to sign very quickly and I am happy to find the pen for him. Talks are progressing but the decision belongs to him and we have to respect that.
“Our desire has been clearly expressed and numbered and, after that, the player has to find satisfaction as well.”
However, the Sun claims there is no chance Wilshere will sign the deal that’s on the table and the disillusioned midfielder is ready to quit the club unless a significantly improved contract is offered.
The newspaper says we’re currently miles apart in negotiations and Wilshere is understood to be aggrieved by Arsenal’s stance given how hard he’s worked to get back to full fitness.
Jack is also well aware Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have signed lucrative contracts worth more than double what he’s been offered while the likes of Aaron Ramsey are also in-line for bumper pay rises.
It’s a tricky situation as obviously Wilshere wants to be paid as much as possible but Arsenal will be wary not to give him an expensive contract due to his injury history.
Jack has played 27 games this season and is on course to beating the 29 appearances he made while on loan at Bournemouth last season – before his spell on the south coast was cut short by yet another injury.
However, the fact is, Arsenal can’t justify paying Wilshere the same as other players because he’s proven to be unreliable in staying fit so the midfielder is going to have to accept that if he wants to remain at the club.
