There are reports of Arsenal offering improved contracts to Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez but Santi Cazorla has revealed that he is in the dark over his future for Arsenal.’
The diminutive Spanish playmakers is currently in the final year of his contract and has admitted that he he would be more than happy to sign a new deal with Arsenal, nonetheless, he has not been offered a new contract and he claims he is unsure of what will happen.
“I have no particular choice [of where to go],” Cazorla told Cadena Ser.
“I honestly do not know what I’ll do if I do not continue at Arsenal. I do not know if I ‘ll go to Spain or another league, it’s a little early.
“If Arsenal do not give me a new contract option, I would have other options, either in Spain or in another league, but today it is still something I have not even considered.
“When the day comes I will take the decision. Today it is difficult. There was talk of a move to Atletico but they were just rumours.
“I do not want to focus on things that are not real. I want to play, give my best and that will have to be it.
“I do not know what will be in the future, I do not close my door to anything, I just want to enjoy football, what I could not do last season.
“I just have one more year of contract and I have no news from the club.”
It will be disastrous if Arsenal fails to offer the 31-year old an extension. It was in his absence, as a result of a knee injury, that our season crumbled last term and he has not showed any signs of ageing this term.
Arsenal currently have other midfielders but Cazorla’s ability to retain possession and maintain displine in midfield makes him indispensable at the moment.
Leaving all that aside, the fan outrage if Arsenal were to let Santi go in the summer would be off the charts.
Cazorla added, “I am happy here.
“A player wants to play and from the moment I arrived at Arsenal I have had the confidence of the coach.
“But there is only one year left on my contract and I have no news from the club.
“I have still a year and we’ll see what decision the club take. I hope to continue playing and continue here is an option.
“My attention is now focused on playing and being able to enjoy playing football after a season that had a lot of injury problems.
“I am very happy here. The club has treated me very well. I am at a great club and I am playing minutes, which is what I want.
“If I don’t play, then I consider leaving, but now I’m playing in a big club.”
