Freiburg’s sporting director Klemens Hartenbach has been forced to deny claims that Arsenal have made an approach to sign defender Caglar Soyuncu.
Speaking to Bild, Hartenbach confirmed that the defender is very much in the club’s plans for the forthcoming season.
Arsenal have never approached us. We assume that Soyuncu plays with us next year. We plan completely with him.
Soyuncu has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal for some time.
He is a player that Sven Mislintat has reportedly had his eyes on and would be keen on bringing to London, despite the summer additions to the club’s backline.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner have already arrived in London this summer, but Unai Emery may not have finished his summer transfer business.
Soyuncu is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the Bundesliga and previous reports had suggested he was on his way to the Emirates, but a deal does not appear to be so straightforward.
