Arsenal have received a knock-back in their pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gunners have been active in the transfer market, chasing former Borussia Dortmund duo Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Things were going well, however they’ve received bad news in their chase for the latter.
Borussia Dortmund are holding firm of their valuation for the Gabonese international. According to Daily Mail, Arsenal have opened the negotiations at £44m, but the German club are asking for at least £53m from Arsene Wenger and co.
Arsenal have a positive reputation with Borussia Dortmund, so they won’t take this too personally. £53m for a player of Aubameyang’s quality isn’t expensive by any means in today’s market. He’s a true asset to the Dortmund setup, and with three years left on his contract, they won’t let the star leave easily.
The Dortmund striker appears to be pushing for a move away to Arsenal, at least that’s what his recent actions would suggest. He was quick to take to Twitter to emphasise his bad boy reputation, by responding to criticism from Michael Makus.
Aubameyang was left out of Borussia Dortmund’s fixture with Hertha Berlin, as speculation surrounding his future remains up in the air. He has made it clear that he would like to join Arsenal, and he seems completely calm with the situation.
The Gabonese international has been in rapid form for his side this season, which is why BVB are holding a strong stance on letting him go. In 23 appearances this season, Aubameyang has scored 21 times and tallied a hat-trick of assists.
