Arsene Wenger wants either Giovanni van Bronckhorst or Eddie Howe to succeed him as manager.

In one of their latest ‘exclusives’, the Daily Star have claimed Arsene Wenger has identified two managers who could take over from him one day – Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.

Wenger is contracted with Arsenal until 2019, but clearly the Daily Star didn’t think it was too early to start speculating about his replacement.

Van Bronckhorst, at least, is a new name. The Dutchman used to play for Arsenal and had a very successful career at both club and international level.

He became the manager of Feyenoord in 2015 and has since won the Dutch cup and the Eredivisie. However, his team have struggled for consistency this season and have made little impact in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe, meanwhile, is always mentioned as a potential Wenger replacement. He continues to do good work with Bournemouth. However, his lack of top level and European experience doesn’t make him the most appealing choice.

It could be that Wenger simply likes both managers. How much say he’ll have in who succeeds him, though, remains to be seen.
