ARSENE WENGER has cooled speculation surrounding Alexis Sanchez but stressed ‘one day he will go and Arsenal will go on’.
Wenger said: “One day Sanchez will go and Arsenal will go on.”
Sanchez posted a picture on his Instagram page on Friday and claimed he was suffering from illness, which led many to doubt the severity of the sickness.
He was due back in pre-season training today but his return was delayed by Wenger and he’s now due back on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old is currently the subject of intense transfer speculation after failing to sign a new contract.
Sanchez wants to join Manchester City but Arsenal are adamant he will not leave this summer, raising the likelihood of a free transfer next year.
Arsenal face Chelsea next weekend in the Community Shield and begin their Premier League season against Leicester
One player who is unlikely to be fit to face Chelsea is Francis Coquelin after he suffered an ankle injury in the win over Benfica on Saturday.
Wenger said: “Coquelin has a scan tomorrow.
“I think he will be out for the weekend – ankle ligament problem.”
