Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 38th minute goal against Huddersfield Town was sufficient to let Arsene Wenger finish his final game as Arsenal manager with a victory.

The Frenchman had earlier announced his decision to step down as Gunners manager at the end of the 2017/18 season. Wenger has already explained that he will not retire, which had put top clubs across Europe on alert.

Wenger, who leaves Arsenal after 22 years, stressed that he will never manage another English club.

The Frenchman gave a lengthy interview to RMC Sport prior to the Huddersfield Town clash. He was asked if a Ligue 1 club had approached him with an offer, what project could tempt him to take the offer.

Wenger said“A project that holds the road, that makes sense, that has the means of its ambitions too, because, well… (he hesitated)  At my age, I cannot work for another 20 years.

“So a feasible project, also in the short term, but that has a sense of the duration. But at the same time, today, I do not know what I’m going to do.”

When further quizzed if he will decide his future after a short break, the former AS Monaco manager said: “No, I need to make a decision. And that’s why I do not want to engage in discussions about my future, because I have not made a decision. I have to take a step back for a few days, and after I decide what I want to do with my future.”

A Director of Football role at a top French club looks like a good option for Wenger, without the constant pressure and stress of actually managing.
