As revealed by Spanish journalist Gerard Romero this afternoon, Arsenal have clinched a deal to sign Barcelona starlet Joel Lopez.
Lopez, a 16-year-old left-back, has been on the books of Barcelona since the age of 7, emerging as the latest in a seemingly never-ending line of prodigious starlets to emerge from the Blaugrana’s famed La Masia academy.
The highly-regarded stopper has long been viewed as one of the most gifted prospects in the youth ranks at Barca, but, to this point, the club have been unable to tie Lopez down to a new deal, despite their best efforts.

And, as per the aforementioned report from Gerard Romero, the Blaugrana’s failure to convince Lopez to commit his future to the club looks set to cost them in a major way, amid claims that the teen informed Barca earlier today that he will be departing for Premier League outfit Arsenal this summer.
The Gunners have long been on the trail of Lopez, with Liverpool having also expressed an interest in the youngster’s services of late, but the presence of Raul Sanllehi at the Emirates is thought to have proven crucial to Arsenal beating off all competition to secure the Spaniard’s signature:
