Arsenal’s in-form goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny has extended his stay at the Emirates Stadium by signing a new professional contract. He recently agreed a new deal with the London side but as we had always known the Gunners to do, they have not released details of the contract.
“I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I’m so happy to be committing my long-term future here”, Szczesny said
“I’ve been at this Club for over seven years now and I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here.
“Many people have given me amazing support since I arrived as a boy, people like Tony Roberts, who helped my development as a player from a young age. I’m so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our club towards success in the years to come.”
Arsene Wenger also expressed delight and satisfaction over the Polish goalkeeper’s decision to stay with the club for some more years.
“We’re very pleased Wojciech has signed a new long-term contract”, said the Frenchman.
“I have always believed he is an extremely talented player, with excellent reflexes and good mental strength.
“He continues to grow and improve all the time too, so he has the potential to be even better. He can be an important part of Arsenal Football Club for many years to come.”
The Poland international has proven he can continue as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper wih his superb displays so far this season. He was dropped by the Arsenal coach towards the end of last season as a result of form deterioration but right now, he has returned back to his best. His unbelievable saves are one of those things which places Arsenal on top of the league table.
The 23-year old signed for the Gunners from Legia Warsaw’s youth academy in 2006. He made his first team appearance for the club in a League Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion and has made 121 appearances for the North-London side.
The step the Gunners just took is the right one. This would put off interests from any clubs who are planning to make a bid for the talented shot-stopper.
According to reports, the deal is worth as much as 20 million pounds over the 4 years of his new Arsenal contract
