Arsenal are planning to sell Shkodran Mustafi this summer, and bring in Jonny Evans, as they look to free up some cash for more signings.
The Daily Mail write that the club are ‘cutting their losses’ on the German, as they feel he hasn’t performed in recent months. They remain interested in Jonny Evans though. The centre-back should be available for £3m, with West Bromwich Albion on the brink of relegation to the Championship.
The Baggies beat Newcastle United on Saturday, keeping their Premier League hopes alive. Still, if they can’t stay up, Evans is free to leave for the low price dictated by his release clause for that scenario.
In recent windows, Arsenal’s interest in Evans has been very well documented. Tony Pulis confirmed the Gunners’ interest in Evans back in September, then the media linked Arsenal to a move for the defender throughout the winter window.
They reportedly made a move for the defender late in January, but the £12m they offered wasn’t enough. Alan Pardew was particularly unhappy about the bid in interviews afterwards.
Arsenal can now get the defender for a quarter of the price, so West Brom’s negotiation tactic didn’t really work. We’ll see if the new manager really does want to sign the 30-year-old though.
