After signing Swiss free agent from Juventus, Unai Emery and the recruitment team are putting finishing touches on a second deal for Sokratis of Dortmund.
The target happens to be Dortmund’s Greek 29-year-old defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Arsenal on the verge of signing Dortmund defender Sokratis, as per reports in the Bild. The report states that the deal is as good as done with the financial details of the deal already agreed and the transfer fee will be worth about €19m with wages amounting to about £84,000-per-week which is double what he currently earns at Dortmund.
As it stands, just a medical stands in the way of completing the deal which should be completed this week. Sokratis is set to team up with former teammates Henrik Mkhitaryan and Emerick Aubameyang who both signed for Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Sven Mislintat appears to be leveraging on his relationship with Dortmund and the players who play for the Bundesliga outfit judging by his transfer activities after being appointed the head of recruitment at Arsenal.
Sokratis represents a brilliant piece of business once you factor in his depth of experience and the transfer fee. The European transfer market is generally characterized by inflated fees for average talents, and paying under €20m for a player with immense CL experience is one deal too good to turn down.
When you consider how much teams like Manchester have spent on players and the insipid performances churned out by those players, Sven Mislintat surely deserves a pat on the back.
