Arsenal have reached out to Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale about a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, according to a report.
Spanish outlet Diario Gol (via the Daily Express) claims that Bale is being lined up as the next big-money acquisition for the Gunners.
The North London side – who have recently splashed the cash on strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – have apparently even begun discussions with Real over a possible deal.
Arsenal lost Alexis Sanchez to Premier League rival Manchester United in January, and despite getting Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return, there is the feeling that they could look for an even more high-profile replacement.
However, Diario Gol say the chances of the former Spurs man Bale joining their biggest rivals is slim.
Reports last Tuesday suggested Manchester United had lodged an opening bid of £60m for Bale, plus add-ons, which would take the deal to £70million.
That offer has apparently been rejected – but Spanish newspaper AS sugget Real have come back to United with a counter-proposal – in a deal that would see United given exclusivity over a deal for Bale.
