Alexis Sanchez will reportedly sign for Manchester City next month after agreeing terms, despite Arsène Wenger’s insistence that Arsenal haven’t received an offer.

Earlier this week, Wenger told reporters the Gunners hadn’t had any bids. He adamantly stated“We have not been approached by anyone.”

However, TMW write that City agreed a £32m fee with Arsenal, which will see Alexis joining in January. According to their report, the Chilean will earn £12m-a-year on a deal lasting until 2021.

Unless Arsenal and City have just completed the quickest transfer in the history of football, there’s probably not much to this rumour. Either that, or Wenger openly told lies in his press conference. I suppose that’s not impossible, but it wouldn’t be the smartest decision.

That’s not to say Sanchez won’t leave for City in January. On the contrary, reliable reports suggest Guardiola still wants to sign him. The 29-year-old also hasn’t performed particularly well for the Gunners, and fans have turned on him.

But I doubt Wenger would flat out deny any bids a day before finalising a deal. Plus, the deal fell through on deadline day on the basis that Arsenal didn’t have a replacement. So if the Gunners still don’t have anyone coming in, I don’t see why they’d agree to sell now.

Stranger things have happened, but for now, it seems like it’s all just speculation.
