The Chile international’s current deal expires next summer and although Arsene Wenger remains adamant the FA Cup holders will not entertain offers for last season’s top scorer and his fellow contract rebel Mesut Ozil, Sanchez continues to be linked with a move away from north London.
On Wednesday reports in Spain claimed Manchester City were confident of being able to sign the former Barcelona forward in the coming days, while Marca followed up on Wednesday, reporting that Arsenal would sell their star man were he to hand in a transfer request and Wenger able to recruit a replacement of similar quality.
Sanchez has now linked up with his Chile teammates following a brief holiday in his homeland ahead of the Confederations Cup in Russia.
Asked if he was likely to renew his contract with Arsenal, Sanchez said: ‘That is what my representative is looking at. I am now focused on the Cup.’
Copa America holders Chile will take part in the eight-team tournament alongside next year’s World Cup hosts as well as the likes of Chile, Germany and Mexico.
Sanchez hasn’t played since he scored and played a starring role in Arsenal’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea last month but hopes to play in a friendly against a local Brazilian team in a friendly on Friday, before the national squad departs for Russia.
‘I hope to play a few minutes tomorrow, I hope the coach allows me to do it. I always want to play, but there is the coach and the teammates to think of.
‘We came from winning the Centenario Cup and now we want to win the Confederations Cup, we have the capacity to do so.’
