AS Monaco defender Fabinho is being watched by Premier League duo Arsenal & Manchester City. The 20-year old is currently on loan at AS Monaco from Rio Ave but wants to leave his parent club in the summer.
Fabinho has not only impressed Arsenal & City but also his current club AS Monaco who have the finances to secure the deal if they wish. Manchester City can rival Monaco but Arsenal are likely to pull out of the deal first.
They are monitoring Fabinho as a possible replacement for Bacary Sagna, who is continuing to stall on contract talks, but hope they will be able to keep hold of the Frenchman. If Sagna still hasn’t signed a new deal by January then it’s unlikely he will stay which will give Wenger the whole of January to find a replacement.
If they fail to keep him then they hope to lure Fabinho by concluding a deal quickly so competition are unable to outbid them. Wenger has sent scouts to watch the Brazilian already and will continue to do so until the New Year.
The Gunners have been looking at other targets including Manchester City’s Micah Richards & Sime Vrsaljko of Genoa and will go for the most cost effective option. Vrsaljko is expected to cost around £8-12 million while Richards will be under £10 million due to his current fringe status at City. Fabinho will cost £12-15 due to age and potential as well as Monaco’s money upping the price if necessary.
