Arsenal may be without another key player after reports indicated that the midfielder is struggling with injury.
MESUT OZIL has reportedly been contending with back problems for some time at Arsenal.
The Gunners star’s form has been criticised in recent months.
And his latest abject display in Arsenal’s demoralising 5-1 defeat at Bayern Munich has seen Arsene Wenger take action.
The Frenchman has sanctioned Ozil some time off, which has allowed him to travel back to Germany to see family.
Arsenal faced non-league Sutton on Monday night without their playmaker but prevailed 2-0 winners in the FA Cup fifth round tie.
According to The Times, Wenger feels a period of rest for Ozil will do him good and the 28-year-old still has his manager’s full support.
The former Real Madrid attacker, who is of Turkish descent, will also head to Turkey after spending time in Germany.
However, Wenger wants the Arsenal ace to return to full training by the end of this week.
His team-mates are reporting to training as normal, but Ozil’s extended break is in hope of him fully recovering.
The World Cup winner has been suffering with back spasms and been playing through the pain for a while.
The Gunners travel to Anfield on March 4 (5.30pm), three days before their Champions League round of 16 second leg with Bayern at the Emirates.
