New manager Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his defence coming on the back of a terrible season where they conceded an astounding 51 goals in the league under former boss Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners have been tracking Klostermann since 2016 but haven’t made a move for him. However, Bild now claim the Gunners have revived their interest in him.
The 22-year-old who has made 74 appearances for Leipzig plays predominantly at right back but can feature across the defence.
The Gunners recently completed the signing of Swiss right back Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer, and are also close to sign Greek center back Sokratis Papastathopulos from Borussia Dortmund.
So there’s the question of where will Klostermann fit? It is very likely that he’s been brought in for his versatility and the prospect of having him as a long term replacement for Lichtsteiner who at 34 is not expected to be a long term project, but just an immediate experienced head.
