After Arsenal’s disappointing defeat yesterday at the Emirate, you would be shocked if Wenger fails to move to into the transfer market, to sign players that would thick the boxes of his squad.
More angst and despair was steered in the air after the League opener and there is a general concensus that Wenger has to sign an attacker and a defender before we can compete with other teams in Europe and the EPL.
With the signing of a striker seemingly impossible, Wenger has shifted his attention to a goal scoring attacking midfielder with Mahrez and James Rodriguez high on the list.
However, Leicester City have made it clear that they are unwilling to let the Algerian leave the Kingpower stadium this season as they are wary of losing another core player of their Premier League winning team.
The Gunners have now turned their attention to Real Madrid player James Rodriguez, who has been reduced to a fringe player since the appointment of Zinedine Zidane, reports Daily Telegraph.
United are also in the race for the player but the signing of Paul Pogba means they have pulled out of the race for Rodriguez, leaving Arsenal in pole position to seal a deal for the player.
Rodriguez recently admitted that there is a €85m offer on the table for him but he wants to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“I’m going to stay with Real Madrid; I’m going to triumph here. I know the club have had an offer of €85 million for me, but I’m not leaving.”
It is this kind of players that are needed in Arsenal. Rodriguez plays from the wing and behind the striker, he can add value to Arsenal.
He has more experience and will be a better buy than Mahrez.
