Arsenal have reportedly had an opening bid for Karim Benzema turned down, with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claimed to have regarded the offer as “embarrassing”.
The Gunners have long been linked with a move for the France international and according to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol, Arsenal made a bid worth £40 million for the striker.
Benzema has spearheaded the attack for many years at Real Madrid but has often been touted with a move to the Premier League. Arsenal may need to add extra firepower to their ranks in the coming months, too, with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil seemingly on their way out.
It looks as though Arsenal will need to up their efforts if they are to secure Benzema’s services in the near future, though. Diario Gol claim that Perez has seen the Gunners’ offer as nothing short of embarrassing given his quality.
It’s also stated that Perez sees the powerful Frenchman as one of the best strikers in the world.
