After weeks of deliberation and knuckle dragging, Arsenal have finally had their bid accepted for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. The news broke late last night, with the fee reported to be in the £60m mark, similar to what Dortmund initially demanded from the Gunners.
Today was always going to be a big day in the transfer saga, as Auba was due in court at 9:45am to give evidence about the bomb attack on Dortmund’s team bus last season. But, despite the case being brought forward by four days to ensure he could attend, Dortmund have now excused him from proceedings, stating sickness as his reason for absence.
This has led to rife speculation that the deal could be concluded and announced today, as Arsenal seem determined to get this one over the line as quickly as possible. Reports over the weekend suggested that the medical could even be carried out in Germany to ensure less time was wasted with travel. If this was the case, there is a possibility that the deal could be wrapped up and registered before today’s noon deadline to play against Swansea.
Personal terms have not been a problem for Arsenal, and it’s been reported that they’ve been tied up for weeks; it was simply the agreement of a fee holding up the transfer. If that is the case, Arsenal will have surely worked through the night to process the paperwork to fast track this deal, as this signing could be a major lift the Arsenal on Tuesday.
If this paperwork is done, it will be a simple case of photography this morning, and that can be done after he is registered with the FA. Remember, the club do not have to publicly announce the player; they just have to file his paperwork to ensure he is available to play.
If Arsenal were to carry out the medical in Germany, it’s likely this would have taken place first thing, or alternatively, he would have flown to London this morning. Considering Aubameyang rarely misses a game, the medical is likely to be a straight forward procedure to identify any underlying issues, and could be wrapped up in a couple of hours either in Germany or at London Colony.
Once this is done, it’s over to Stuart McFarlane to get on with photography, and work on some shots to announce the signing. But, it appears Arsenal are already one step ahead of the game here, with Mkhitaryan making a video last week saying ‘yo, Pierre, do you want to come here?’ If this signing if announced today, you can expect Mkhi’s leaked video to precede any announcement of the flamboyant Gabonese striker! #WelcomeAubameyang
