Barcelona are weighing up a transfer bid for Arsenal star Jack Wilshere. The midfielder has been in good form of late and Barcelona see the English talent as a long-term player.
The Catalans are looking for ideal replacements for Xavi and Andres Iniesta with the former coming to the latter stages of his career. Wilshere is on a list of three targets who Barcelona want to succeed the Spanish duo alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan and Koke of Atletico Madrid.
The Blaugrana will have great difficulty in luring any of these away from their respective clubs. Koke has been a vital part of the Atletico side who have matched Barcelona so far in La Liga and are arguably the team most threatening to ruin their title defence. They will not want to lose their talismanic midfielder, especially to their rivals.
Gundogan has attracted interest from across Europe including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester United as well as Barca and is probably the most likely transfer out of the three. The German is considered a gem and has been tipped to become the best player in his position in a few years. Dortmund will not want to sell such a star but could be forced too with the interest in him every increasing and his desire to move away increasing with it.
Wilshere has been at Arsenal since the age of nine and has committed his long-term future to the club. He has stated countless times he does not want to leave Arsenal and so Barcelona’s interest will not concern Arsene Wenger. The player is tied down to the club for several years and has no desire to leave the Emirates, especially with the excitement that is buzzing around the club at the moment.
Arsene Wenger has built the team around Wilshere since his breakthrough in to the team and has stressed the midfielder’s importance to the club.
“He is a very important player here, you know.”
“All my plans for the future at the club have always been built around Jack and around Jack.”
“We had some setbacks with him – a lot – but he is a very important player in my squad.”
Barcelona are used to getting the targets they want but may have to look elsewhere with all three targets happy at their respective clubs.
