A large section of Arsenal fan base would not want to hear this. Arsenal’s efforts to land a top notch centre-back -as the end of the summer transfer window approaches – continue to prove abortive.
While Liverpool are planning to scupper the Gunners’ deal for Shkodran Mustafi, the likes of Simon Kjaer and Omer Toprak are also looking increasingly impossible to get. Now another blow!
Atletico Madrid have taken budding defender Jose Gimenez off the transfer market after Arsenal failed to follow up their interest. This is as per Football Espana, who adds that Real Madrid also registered an interest in the Uruguayan defender. They take their inspiration from Marca that Atletico have not received any concrete offer for Gimenez so far this summer, despite Arsenal and Real’s interest. Now, the Madrid outfit are no longer ready to sell Gimenez, with the transfer window only eleven days away from closing.
Arsenal registered an interest in Gimenez after talks between them and Valencia for the transfer of Mustafi reached a deadlock, while Real are said to be long-term admirers of the 21-year old centre-back.
Suitors will, therefore, have to activate Gimenez’s buyout clause which stands at €65m before the player can leave the Vicente Calderon.
