Tito Vilanova has announced Cesc Fabregas will not be leaving Barcelona this summer ending speculation over moves with Arsenal and Manchester United. The Premier League champions entered a £25 million bid for the midfielder but the ex Gunners captain opted to remain with the Catalans.
There had been talk that Fabregas had become unsettled with the club continually playing him out of position and leaving him out of the important games. David Moyes was ready to take advantaged of the situation by offering him the chance to become a mainstay in a new look Manchester United midfield but Cesc rebuffed the offer.
Arsene Wenger was also looking at the possibility of a reunion with the Spain international with the luxury of having first refusal making them favourites to land the 26-year old.
Barcelona were considering accepting Manchester United’s opening bid but talks between Fabregas and Vilanova ensured the midfielder would stay.
“I’m aware there have been offers. I had a conversation with him and he told me that he wanted to continue here and that he didn’t want to go to another big club. He wants to succeed here.”
The comments show that despite his inability to nail down a regular starting spot at Barcelona, he is eager to stay there. His passion for the Catalans was evident even in his days at Arsenal and now he’s there, he doesn’t want to leave. He wants to prove himself and knows he will have an important member of the team when Xavi retires.
