Arsenal’s Player of the Season Santi Cazorla could miss the start of the Premier League along with fellow Spaniard Nacho Monreal. The pair will definitely miss the club’s tour of Asia and face a struggle to be fit in time for the Premier League opener.
Arsene Wenger has given the duo extra-time off as they have participated in the Confederations Cup with Spain. They could both feature in tonight’s final with Brazil. The rest of the Arsenal squad will be reporting to training on Thursday before starting the Asian pre-season tour. Cazorla and Monreal will be starting their summer holidays.
They will be expected to return in early August and will more than likely miss the Emirates Cup on 3 & 4 August. The friendly with Manchester City on 10 August could also be too soon with the Premier League opener with Aston Villa only a week later. It is unlikely the pair will be match fit for that game. They could miss majority of August, which would also see them absent from Arsenal’s crucial Champions League qualifiers.
The Spaniards are the only players from Arsenal competing in the Confederations Cup and apart from Abou Diaby, all of his remaining players should be fit to start the new season with Jack Wilshere successfully undergoing ankle surgery.
Santi Cazorla is a huge part of the Arsenal team contributing 12 goals from midfield last season while Monreal also proved a good asset with a string of solid defensive displays after his January arrival while also opening the scoring at Swansea City.
