Arsene Wenger revealed Alexis Sanchez is nursing a slight hamstring injury ahead of Arsenal’s showdown with Manchester United on Saturday. After a slow start to the new season, the Chile international is hitting peak form again and scored for the third consecutive game during his side’s thumping 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Wednesday.
After getting on the scoresheet during the north London derby and converting a 92nd minute winning penalty against Burnley at the weekend, Sanchez put the game beyond David Wanger’s side last night, lashing home Arsenal’s third goal on the half volley following Mesut Ozil’s pinpoint cutback.
The 28-year-old was, however, taken off just four minutes after scoring his fifth goal of the season and Wenger admitted he was protecting his star forward.
‘Sanchez had a little hamstring problem – that’s why I took him off but I think he will be alright,’ said a hopeful Arsenal manager after a win which cemented his side’s place in the top four.
Wenger will, however, be without top scorer Alexandre Lacazette who was taken off with a groin injury at half-time and has been ruled out of the crunch clash with Jose Mourinho’s side.
