The Arsenal signing opens up about Alexandre Lacazette and their potential partnership
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he is relishing the opportunity to play alongside his Arsenal team-mate Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners signed the France international in a £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window to bolster Arsene Wenger’s attacking options ahead of the 2017-18 season.
However, Lacazette has struggle to translate his Ligue 1 form to the Premier League despite scoring inside two minutes of his debut in Arsenal’s 4-3 win against Leicester City in their season opener.
Arsenal brought in Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a club record £56m deal on transfer deadline day in the January transfer window to add more firepower to the Gunners team.
The Gabon international has hit the ground running with six goals in seven games in the Premier League, but he unselfishly handed Lacazette the chance to score from the penalty spot in a 3-0 win over Stoke City despite being on a hat-trick.
Speaking to Sky Sports about his potential partnership with Lacazette, Aubameyang talked up his Arsenal team-mate.
“I hope we will have the opportunity to play together – it’s something I said when I first arrived that I hoped to play with him,” Aubameyang said.
“We have different styles, but I think they’re styles that complement each other – he’s a very good player and a very kind person.
“We were once rivals in our days in France, but we’re now friends and I hope we can play well together and score lots of goals.”
The Gunners will make the trip to Russia on Thursday night after a 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final last week.
Arsenal are in sixth spot in the Premier League table.
