Arsenal will not be under any pressure when they play Tottenham tomorrow but the players are expected to hold their own and they re-affirm their supremacy as the king of London.
However, Arsene Wenger has warned fans of Arsenal that they should not expect Mesur Ozil to deliver magic tomorrow as Arsenal have plenty other players.
Ozil netted an impressive last-minute solo goal in Arsenal’s 3-2 Champions League win over Ludogorets on Tuesday to see Wenger’s side through to the round of 16, with the Gunners set to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Wenger says while Germany midfielder will “always shine” in a strong team performance, he shouldn’t be expected to deliver anything special because there are plenty of other players capable of making a difference.
“People who look fluid, lax with their joints, don’t look as if they push themselves too much, but if you look at their performances they surprise you many times,” said Wenger.
“He’s a player who left some people sceptical but every time you look at the games again, and he had the ball, something intelligent happened. I was always supportive of him.
“In big games there is always a lot of expectation from him. We have to produce a team performance. We have plenty of players who can make a difference and should not expect Ozil to deliver anything special. If we have the ball Ozil is a stronger player. If the team performance is strong, Ozil will always shine.”
Ozil has netted seven goals in all competitions for the Gunners this season, just one less than he managed in the whole of last term.
He has completed 89% of his passes and had six shots on target this season, with Arsenal unbeaten in all nine games Ozil has featured.
Arsenal, currently second in the table behind Manchester City on goal difference, take on Mauricio Pochettino’s unbeaten Spurs side at the Emirates on Sunday.
