One of the reasons why Arsene Wenger has failed us is his poor team selection – the French tactician has failed many times in fielding the right team.
ARSENE WENGER says Lucas Perez is knocking on the first-team door at Arsenal.
Perez, 28, has made just two Premier League starts since joining Arsenal from Deportivo La Coruna for £17m last summer.
But he played from the start as the Gunners booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over non-league Sutton last night.
The Spaniard made the most of his opportunity, opening the scoring after 26 minutes when his cross-shot found its way into the back of the net.
With six goals and three assists, Perez has now been directly involved in nine goals in his past eight starts for Arsenal across all competitions.
And Wenger admits the forward would probably have more game time under his belt if it wasn’t for fierce competition for places at the Emirates.
“Yes, he is pushing on the door but I have many strikers,” said the Frenchman, when asked if he wants to play Perez more.
“I have Giroud, Welbeck, Walcott, Alexis and Lucas.
“It is true that he deserves a go because he scores goals and is a good player.”
The Gunners don’t play this weekend but return to action with a tough trip to Liverpool a week on Saturday.
