Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on his German import Mesut Ozil after yet another eye catching display from him against Napoli. The former Real Madrid ace got a goal and assisted another.
“In the first half he was absolutely amazing.
“Everything was in there. Collective skill, individual skill, finishing. All that you dream to see in the stand when you come to see football.
“It’s good [for Ozil to get his first goal]. When you take too long to score it is on your mind but he got rid of that.”
Wenger was obviously saying Ozil was the total package. He showed brilliant skill to leave his marker for dead enroute assisting Giroud for the 2nd goal while he showed great individual skill to score his first goal. Firstly, he timed his run to perfection as he arrived at the right time to smash home Ramsey’s cut back. The conventional reaction was to control the cross before aiming a shot but brilliant players always make difficult things look simple. Ozil simply volleyed in past the outstretching Reina. A side-footed volleyed finish is sweet to behold.
I am particularly happy that he has finally scored for Arsenal, not that it was getting too long for him to do so but he has been edging closer to scoring. Against Swansea, it took a brilliant save from Vorm to deny him and for a player that has been feeding others (5 assists now), he deserved a slice of the meat too. Now that he has opened his goal account, he can continue with his assists and also chipping in his own fair share of goals.
