Arsene Wenger is delighted to see Jack Wilshere take his advice as the midfielder moves closer to signing a new contract at Arsenal.

Negotiations between the club and Wilshere, who missed the Gunners’ 3-1 defeat at Leicester after his wife went into labour, saw a breakthrough earlier this month after Arsenal improved an offer of £80,000-a-week plus bonuses to around £100,000-a-week.

Wilshere has always made clear his desire to stay at Arsenal but his future had appeared to be in doubt after the initial offer, which would have constituted a pay cut for the England international.
Ultimately it will not be down to Wenger – whose final game as Arsenal manager is at Huddersfield on Sunday – whether Wilshere stays, but the Frenchman welcomed the signs of an agreement between both parties.

“I give him only always one piece of advice: stay at the club,” Wenger told Standard Sport. “The noises I have is that he will do it.

“I don’t know how close he is to signing the contract but the noises are positive.

“So I hope that will be concluded very quickly and that he can go to the World Cup with England… and win the World Cup.”
