The future of Arsenal’s right back Bacary Sagna is far from been sorted. When it looked like a light had appeared at the end of the tunnel with the Gunners and Sagna reportedly close to an agreement, another twist has emerged with TuttoMercato claiming the Frenchman has set his sights on joining fellow Premier League side Manchester City.
It is no longer news that the former Auxerre right back is after a big contract which is likely going to be his last at a top club and it seems the Sky Blues are ready to offer him that. City aren’t the only team willing to offer him a big contract which is what he wants, other teams on the continent like PSG, Monaco, Inter Milan and Galatasaray are also interested in doing so but the prospect of staying in England makes City an attractive option. He won’t be alone there as he would have the company of fellow Arsenal contract rebels there.
Loosing him would certainly be a blow to Arsenal but seeing him leave for City would represent a bigger blow and brings to the fore the question of whether or not Arsenal can keep their best players from the tempting offers of other top clubs. On the other hand, Sagna might incur the wrath of Arsenal fans. It is a known fact that Arsenal fans haven’t taken kindly to their top players arm-twisting the club into selling him them to top domestic rivals let alone one that opts to join them for free.
I just hope for an amicable solution. Sagna has served Arsenal and deserves to be rewarded for his loyalty. He is one of the few that kept their heads when others were loosing it. But if they can’t find one, I hope Sagna leaves England so he doesn’t ruin the good relationship he has with the fans.
