Arsenal youngster is set to remain at Real Betis for another year. The Costa Rica international joined Arsenal in the summer of 2011 but was sent away on loan to FC Lorient straight away due the player not eligible for a work permit, similar to the circumstances of Ryo Miyaichi when he was first signed. He scored four goals in 27 appearances for the French side before signing up to Spain.
His year-long spell at Betis was very productive with the forward a vital part of the team. Although he only scored two goals in 30 appearances, he racked up five assists and provided Betis with pace and strength as well as trickery. He helped guide the club in to a Europa League place and will be able to extend his development by participating in Europe next season.
Not only did he impress in Spain but has been capped an amazing 22 times at only 20-years old. He has seven goals for his nation including a goal against World and European champions Spain.
His development on loan for another year will be invaluable, as he will be playing first-team football, something he will find hard to come by at the Emirates with competition from Ryo, Thomas Eisfield and Serge Gnabry just to get noticed. Andrey Arshavin’s departure has opened up a space in the squad but that is likely to be filled with a summer signing.
