Marouane Chamakh could still be playing Premier League football next season, as Crystal Palace prepare a loan offer for the Moroccan.
The striker has struggled since his move from Bordeaux three summers ago and was set for a move away from the club with Arsene Wenger looking to rid the club of the deadwood players along with their hefty wages.
Andrey Arshavin, Denilson, Seb Squillaci, Andre Santos and Vito Mannone have all left the club permanently while Francis Coquelin, Joel Campbell and Johan Djourou have moved away on season long loan deals.
Chamakh was according to betting odds on many Soccer Betting Predictions sites heading for a move back to France before Palace’s inquiry. Ian Holloway is eager to boost his attacking options after Wilfried Zaha’s move to Manchester United and Carlton Cole’s failed move to the club.
The 29-year old scored twice for Arsenal last season, both coming in the 7-5 victory over Reading in the Capital One Cup but failed to net for West Ham following his January loan move.
Palace are looking for a six-month loan with an option to extend to a full season should the striker impress.
“The plan is to bring him in for six months and see how the move works out. He wants a targetman to compliment Dwight Gayle and Chamakh fits the bill. Holloway feels he can bring the best out of him and has always rated him.” An Eagles source said.
“Chamakh’s now top of the manager’s wish-list.”
The news will be welcome by Arsenal fans with yet another deadwood player set to leave albeit on loan. The main stumbling block in the deal will be the forwards £65,000-a-week wages but Palace are confident they will be able to finance a deal.
