Real Madrid have beaten Arsenal to the signing of Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan with a medical already done, according to shock reports from Spain via Daily Express.
The Argentinian is one of the leading marksmen in Europe this season with 18 goals in 20 matches for the Nerazzurri’s.
And his performances have led to speculation Icarid could be on his way out of the San Siro. Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been reported to be interested in the Argentina forward forward.
But the Los Blancos have been leading the way for his signature with further questions marks over France international Karim Benzema’s future.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Icardi looks set to complete a stunning move to the Bernabeu before the end of this month.
That’s because it is said the reigning European and La Liga champions have already conducted a medical assessment in private.
His release clause currently stands out close to £98million but the Serie A giants’ sporting director Piero Ausillo recently claimed Inter are confident they could extend his contract.
“We are not worried. Aside from the fact there is a clause that is valid for abroad until July, Mauro and us want to stay together and achieve our objectives,” Ausillo said.
“I won’t rule out that, without any appointments set right now because he has a very long contract, we could in future sit down and talk about something different.”
