Former striker, Alan Smith, has spoken out on Arsenal’s transfer silence this summer. The Englishman, who is known best for his time with Arsenal, has spoken out, expressing the thoughts of quite a few fans. The Gunners’ legend said, “Everyone has spoken about Arsenal’s trophy drought for too long now. “Higuain going to Serie A was a real worry.
“Arsene is adamant he doesn’t want to pay over the odds to sign a player. “But maybe it has got to the point where they have to bite the bullet, because they haven’t made signings in a way they suggested they would.
“Of course you can’t grab world-class signings out of thin air – but it can’t go on much longer.
“The most worrying aspect is that he has got the money but can’t add to the squad, which just builds up the frustration.
“Arsene is all-powerful at the club and luckily he has American owners who don’t really know the game and he is allowed to carry on.
“But the manager is now getting stick from fans for whom he was God.
“It’s time to kick on – but maybe if you can’t it is time for someone else at the end of the season. “He might even make the move and quit himself.”
Last season, when Arsenal were languishing in 10th place, after a 2-0 defeat against Swansea, there were huge cries calling for Arséne Wenger’s head. However, after Arsenal’s miraculous recovery, fans are patient again, and waiting for Arsenal to spend some money, because it is clear that Arsenal have a core of players which have bonded well together, with a fantastic team spirit, which was shown in the win over Manchester City, in Helsinki. Wenger, himself has recognized that Arsenal need a few top players, which will give the Gunners a great shot at the title, and at the domestic cups, which are known to be Arsenal’s best chance of ending their trophy doubt. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been linked with a £14 million bid for Bayern’s midfield dynamo, Luiz Gustavo, and are thought to be close to offering trialist Sebastian Perez a permanent deal.
